On The Shoulders Of Giants

Everyday I could probably classify a few hundred or a few thousand actions. Each one of those actions is with tools, technologies, or ideas that were built upon the inventions of those before me and those inventions were built from those before them.

Everything we care about, everything we do in a day is built off of something someone else built in a previous save version.

As I think about it, generative AI and machine learning in general mimics humanity’s progress and our default learning process.

A while back many people tried to start a petition to slow down development of AI at least until we got to a point where we felt we could manage the associated risks. High profile people like Elon Musk, and Steve Wozniak signed it.

While a lovely thought, progress has not paused. As we all know, it’s near impossible to put the genie back in the lamp. Our insatiable desire is brought about by our collective human tendencies.

A shower thought:

It’s possible that every primal urge that transpired through the past millions and billions of years was a critical path to reach the concept we call AGI. From the most basic of functions of breathing, thirst, hunger, and sleep. To complex social structures, reproduction, and self-actualization. Maybe it was all part of some eventual plan to push the only known capable set of creatures to build AGI.

We are on a path, whether we want to be or not.

A little concerned
