What are the right things to focus on? Can you name 3 specific activities that you’ll do today that you planned to measure against your goals?
I can’t.
How much time, money, and effort should you be putting into those things?
I don’t know. More I suppose.
Inertia will carry you through the status quo, but if you want anything else, you have the hard job of stopping, adjusting your trajectory, and starting it all back up again.
Start with finding out what matters the most. Then do the most important and hardest work. Not the easy distracting work that has the least impact in the areas that matter most. The hard, thankless work, that deep down you know is the most important.
And don’t stop until after the effort required is more than the value of the results.
"When I was 17, I read a quote that went something like: 'If you live each day as if it was your last, someday you'll most certainly be right.' It made an impression on me, and since then, for the past 33 years, I have looked in the mirror every morning and asked myself: 'If today were the last day of my life, would I want to do what I am about to do today?' And whenever the answer has been 'No' for too many days in a row, I know I need to change something."
